For your faithful four-legged friend, you naturally want the best dog pillow. With the many options out there, sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees. To determine which dog pillow is most suitable for you and your dog, we have a few tips.
1. BUY THE RIGHT SIZE
Best dog cushion tipsFirst of all, it is important that your dog does not lie on a mattress that is too small. Of course it is not nice when you do not have enough room to relax. But what size is suitable for your four-legged friend? In all our articles you will find information about the size of the pillow, and for which breed the pillow is suitable. There are always exceptions within the breeds. Also, dogs and bitches sometimes differ in length. Want to be sure you buy the right pillow? Measure your dog when he is stretched out. Add 15 centimeters to the measured distance, then you are definitely right.
2. PAY ATTENTION TO THE THICKNESS OF THE DOG PILLOW
The thickness of a mattress is something you can decide for yourself. Although we recommend not to buy a pillow thinner than 10 centimeters. The thinner the pillow the easier the cold from the ground draws into the pillow. On a dog pillow, your four-legged friend must of course be nice and soft, but it also needs a warm place. Furthermore, it depends on which dog you have. A heavier dog will benefit more from a thicker mattress than a small dog. Our dog pillows all have a thickness of +/- 15 centimeters.
3. WHICH DESIGN IS THE MOST SUITABLE?
We believe that a quality dog cushion creates the best place for your dog. Yet a pillow should of course also fit into the interior. Therefore, make a well-considered choice as to which dog cushion will look best in your home. Will you go for a round dog cushion, an oval cushion, or a rectangular cushion? And what color is the most beautiful? Red, blue, gray or just black? The choice is yours!Besides the design, the type is also important. Have you ever thought about an orthopedic dog cushion? These are very suitable for dogs with joint problems or other pains. You can find more info about orthopedic mattresses here.
4. THE BEST MATERIAL
The material can be important in the search for the right dog cushion. For example, there are dog cushions made of leather, nylon, corduroy, cotton, etc. What fits well with your interior, and what material is practical? We have described the characteristics of our materials below: Nylon: is water repellent, easy to keep clean and can take a beating. Corduroy: is wonderfully soft, trendy, resistant to sunlight discoloration. It only gets dirty faster. Synthetic leather: robust appearance, retains heat, easy to wipe. Nano: water and dirt repellent, prevents unpleasant odors, antibacterial.
5. AN INTERCHANGEABLE OUTER COVER
It is very convenient when a dog cushion has an interchangeable cover. When the cover needs to be washed you can easily remove it from the cushion. In addition, it is very nice to change the style, you could not choose between a ribcord cushion or one of nylon? A second cover offers a solution.
6. THE FILLING OF A DOG CUSHION
Dog pillows are usually filled with EPS beads, fiberfill, polyether flakes or foam. We've listed the characteristics of these materials for you.
EPS pearls: This is a beautiful material. Due to the warmth of the dog, the pillow molds to the body. EPS pearls provide good support but are not true orthopedic pillows. When you buy a pillow with EPS pearls, make sure that no recycled pearls are used, these are of drastically lower quality. Should the filling deteriorate you can easily replenish or replace it with new EPS pearls.
Fiberfill: This material is very soft and retains the dog's warmth. Pillows that retain heat are nice and cozy for your dog. Fiberfill is resilient and has a large volume. This makes it well suited for dog pillows.
Polyether flakes: A dog pillow filled with flakes is volume fixed and is very comfortable. When the cushion is fluffed up it returns to its original state. Unlike EPS beads which still sometimes sag. Over time there may be potholes.
Foam: A cushion filled with foam is usually filled with cold foam. When a pillow is filled with a combination of cold foam and memory foam we speak of an orthopedic pillow. These pillows give the best support to your dog.
